David Dwinell received his Bachelor of Music degree in percussion performance from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music under the direction of the Percussion Group Cincinnati, and the Master of Music degree from Indiana University . His principal instructors have been James Culley of the Percussion Group Cincinnati, Jerald Carlyss, former timpanist for the Philadelphia Orchestra, and Steve Houghton, studio drummer and Jazz faculty at Indiana University . David is an active performer of contemporary music, by both established up and coming composers, through his work with The Tonus Percussion Group, and Indiana
University 's New Music Ensemble. His performances have taken him through a wide variety of venues including live radio, live television, and television commercial work.  He was a co-founder of the Tonus Percussion Group, which commissioned works from Anthony Cirone, Garrett Byrnes, and James Holt. He has performed with the Cincinnati , Kentucky , Evansville , Owensboro , and Columbus , Indiana , Symphony Orchestras, among others, and is currently the timpanist for the Bloomington Pops orchestra. Dave was also recently named the drummer for Jenn Cristy, a former backup singer for John Mellencamp, which has taken Dave all over the U.S. and has included live venue and live television performances, as well as studio work. As a teacher, Dave is a visiting instructor of percussion at Morningside College in Sioux City , Iowa , and maintains a full studio of private students in Bloomington , Indiana. He is a former Associate Instructor of percussion at Indiana University , and assistant band director of Western Brown High School in Brown County , Ohio .
